Rafa posted a lovely picture of himself at the Monte Carlo Country Club yesterday. This is, obviously, no ordinary photo, as it is, obviously, fraught--yes, fraught--with symbolic meaning. Being the semi-pro art historian that I am--i.e., I took three, yes THREE, art history courses in college (funnily enough, the whole reason I ended up in those art history courses was because my freshman year, I dropped my Spanish course in a panic after realizing it was way too hard for me-- I had over-performed on the placement exam, and even though they warned us that this was common and we should probably drop down a level, and even though I followed this instruction and did indeed drop down a full level--it still wasn't enough, and the fact that the instructor was a rather unsympathetic adjunct (i.e., when I stayed after (along with like, half the class--I wasn't the only one struggling) one day to ask her for her advice on how to proceed given my/our difficulties, she recommended that we "learn our verbs" and "buy a dictionary") didn't help matters, so anyway, yeah, I made the executive decision to drop the course, and then I had a gaping hole in my schedule, and few options, because the lower level Spanish course was full, along with pretty much everything else, so I ended up in Art of Asia, and soon realized art history courses were like, the perfect filler courses, because they were relaxing--i.e.
