Michael Russell

This is more of a musing than a full length post, but anyone who has tried to play tennis has to appreciate Michael Russell.  His game is not overwhelming, but he has obviously pushed himself to maximize his abilities.  As a tennis player and fan, I have to give him great credit.   In his career, he has taken sets off of Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro in Grand Slam matches.  He even held match point against Gustavo Kuerten at the French Open.  I certainly love the final weekends of Grand Slam events, but the opening days are memorable precisely because of players such as Russell.  He is better at tennis than most of us are at our chosen profession while also being anonymous.

I will share a few thoughts on tomorrow’s matches in my next post, but Russell deserved the first post on this new tennis blog.
