Sony Ericsson/Miami Predictions 3-22-2012

Projected Winner in BOLD         C= Correct Pick X = Missed Pick

First Round
Sam Querrey vs. Matthew Ebden – I think Sam gets back into the win column here. C

David Goffin vs. Donald Young – Young is always hard to predict, but I think he advances.  X

Sergiy Stakhovsky vs. Bernard Tomic – The Aussie should advance. C

Alex Bogomolov Jr. vs. Gilles Muller – This is a hard pick, but I think Muller will win due to his serve. C

Lukasz Kubot vs. Ivo Karlovic – Dr. Ivo has not been quite as potent the past 12-18 months, but I think he advances. C

Sergei Bubka vs. Ernests Gulbis – Wow, neither guy is particularly consistent.  I will take Bubka just due to having no faith in Gulbis (whose game I really like BTW). C

Yen-Hsun Lu vs. Jarkko Nieminen – The veteran should get the win. X

Benjamin Becker vs. Olivier Rochus – I like Rochus to advance.  X

Frank Dancevic vs. Jeremy Chardy – Dancevic is an over-achiever and Chardy has not had a breakthrough.  Still, Chardy has the more complete game.X

Igor Kunitsyn vs. Jesse Levine – This is a tough call, but I’ll take Igor. C

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez vs. Rajeev Ram – Guillermo Garcia-Lopez is a tough competitor and Ram has nice 1990’s Pete Sampras-style game.  I am taking Garcia-Lopez. C

Albert Ramos vs. Simone Bolelli – Taking a shot in the dark and picking Ramos. C

Ryan Harrison vs. Potito Starace – Harrison should win and set-up a big match versus Federer. C

Leonardo Mayer vs. Marcos Baghdatis – My head says do not pick Baghdatis, but I will pick him. C

Bjorn Phau vs. Carlos Berlocq – I will take Berlocq who has quietly built on last year’s entertaining encounter with Nole. X

Cedrik-Marcel Stebe vs. Flavio Cipolla – This is another shot in the dark. X
