As expected, Federer beat hometown kid, Bernad Tomic. He won 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-1. It was a good match and Roger started off the blocks quickly as he usually does while playing the hometown guy. After breaking serve in the very first game, both players held serve and Federer took it 6-4. He could have wrapped it up earlier but Bernard fended off break point chances with some good play on his part.
Federer continued his good form in the second set; held serve with ease and created about a million break point chances. Unfortunately he didn’t convert a single one! Federer fans familiar with his pattern of play wouldn’t be surprised though, this is not the first time Federer has wasted BPs; he is Wasterer! 😀
Both men served their way to the inevitable tie break. And for a few moments, it did look as if all those wasted chances…
