Predicted Winners in BOLD
Ladies’ Singles Round of 16
Serena Williams (USA) [1] v Sabine Lisicki (GER) [23] – Lisicki is a talented grass court player. If she happened to be in the bottom half of the draw, she’d have a decent look at the final. Instead she will likely be beaten in straight sets, but I expect one of the sets to be reasonably close.
Laura Robson (GBR) v Kaia Kanepi (EST) – Robson is a good player in her own right, but I think the home crowd will help her reach the quarterfinal round.
Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) [4] v Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) – Pironkova is always tough at Wimbledon, but Radwanska had a look at winning the title last year. She should be hungry to set up a rematch with Serena in the semifinal round.
Roberta Vinci (ITA) [11] v Na Li (CHN) [6] – Na Li is hard to predict. She can be awesome, and she can be awful. I am taking the percentages here and picking Vinci who I believe is less likely to play a bad match.
Monica Puig (PUR) v Sloane Stephens (USA) [17] – Stephens seems to have come to terms with her strong play in Melbourne. She can make a move toward the top 10 in the near future.
Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) [20] v Flavia Pennetta (ITA) – This could go either way, but I will take the veteran to advance.
Marion Bartoli (FRA) [15] v Karin Knapp (ITA) – Bartoli is not easy to predict, but she is the favorite in this match.
Petra Kvitova (CZE) [8] v Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) [19] – If Petra is dialed in, she should win. She should reach the final if she is focused. If Kvitova is not on her game, Suarez Navarro has enough talent to pull the upset.
