Power Ranking 2013 #9
1. Andy Murray – Murray broke a 77 year slump for men from the UK at All England. Over the past 52 weeks, Murray has won 2 slams, produced 1 slam runner-up finish and won a gold medal. His back-to-back titles at Queen’s Club and Wimbledon have him atop my rankings as he heads into Canada.
2. Novak Djokovic – Can he win 3 straight in Canada?
3. Rafael Nadal – Rafa leads the 2013 points race and a title in Canada could make his lead almost insurmountable.
4. Juan Martin del Potro – He destroyed Isner after getting off to a slow start. Add a semifinal win over Tommy Haas, and JMDP is looking like his old self for the first time since the World Tour Finals in 2009. Change since last ranking + 1
5. David Ferrer – He has not done anything wrong, but JMDP moved up so someone moved down. Change since last ranking -1
6. Tommy Haas – He’s playing quite well.
7. Fabio Fognini – I am not sure he will stay in my top 10 since the tour is moving to hardcourts, but he has played exceptionally well as of late. Chance since last ranking – not ranked
8. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – The tour is in flux and he is a good player on hardcourts. It may be time to make a move toward the top tier or to drop out of the top 15.
9. Jerzy Janowicz – He can add a lot of ranking points between now and the indoor season. Change since last ranking – 2
10. Roger Federer (Tie) – Sure, he added 180 ranking points in Hamburg, is playing with a new racquet for the first time since the 1990s, and has an ailing back. Still, Federer is not looking like himself. Change since last ranking – 1
10. John Isner (Tie) – The big man is playing well on US soil. He won Atlanta, was runner-up in DC and was a semifinalist in Newport. Change since last ranking – not ranked
Biggest Mover – Jerzy Janowicz dropped 2 spots, but he is playing with house money for a few months at least.
Entered the Poll – Fabio Fognini and John Isner
Dropped Out – Tomas Berdych and Richard Gasquet – Both men can make strides and win points in this upcoming stretch of the season.
