US Open 2013: Day 8 Men’s Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Fourth Round

Rafael Nadal (2) vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber (22) – I will not be shocked if Kohlschreiber is able to at times push Nadal today.  However, given Rafa’s current form and the 3 out of 5 set format, I see no real possibility of an upset.

David Ferrer (4) vs. Janko Tipsarevic (18) – I am tempted to take Tipsy, but I think Ferrer is getting his game back at the right time.

Roger Federer (7) vs. Tommy Robredo (19) – Federer looks to set up the most anticipated quarterfinal night match at Ashe since Sampras-Agassi in 2001.

Richard Gasquet (8) vs. Milos Raonic (10) – This is a 50-50 match.  Gasquet has had a great year and Milos has had a great hard court summer.  Each man has the gifts to win this match, but it will all come down to how often Gasquet can get into Milos’ service games.  I have to pick at least one upset so I’ll take Milos in 4 tight sets.

Hi Dan, Agree with your picks. I wonder if Gasquet might make it? Or Tipsy, as you say. But I’d probably stick with your picks if I were a betting person. 🙂

I’d probably take Gasquet, but I need one lower ranked player winning to be a little interesting.

Tipsy has a shot to advance. He toughed it out the last match. His pregnant wife and his new tennis academy might be a motivator.

tipsy had leads in a couple sets but squandered them. persistence, for ferrer, pays off.
