US Open 2013: Day 8 Women’s Predictions

Predicted Winners on BOLD

Fourth Round

Alison Riske vs. Daniela Hantuchova – Riske is a great story.  However, Petra Kvitova’s health (an asthma flair up plus a fever) had a lot to do with her 3rd round victory.  Hantuchova is a veteran who knows this is a huge opportunity.

Simona Halep (21) vs. Flavia Pennetta – Both players have been in great form at this event, and Halep has been strong on summer.  I wish both were moving into the final 8 as I think each is close to the zone at the moment.  Halep should have a lot of energy after her 3rd round demolition so I will pick her in a match that could go either way.

Roberta Vinci (10) vs. Camila Giorgi – This is another tough call.  Giorgi looked strong in beating Wozniacki.  Vinci has a ton of variety in her game.  I think variety is rewarded.

Victoria Azarenka (2) vs. Ana Ivanovic (13) – Both survived three set matches in the 3rd round.  Vika fended off a zoning for 1 and 1/2 sets Alize Cornet.  I think that scare helps Azarenka take care of business against the former world number one.

  1. Agree with all of your picks except Riske. Hantuchova is hot right now, but I think Alison will rise as a big crowd favorite on Ashe today.

I agree re: Halep/Pennetta. But just for fun, I’ll pick Pennetta.
