As the new season is a little way off yet, I thought I’d write a few posts looking back on 2013. I’m going to start with a percentage breakdown of the top 8 players’ total ranking points by court surface.

Key trends

  • 5 out of the 8 players had the most success on outdoor hardcourts; Nadal, Ferrer and Wawrinka had the most success on clay.
  • Nadal and Ferrer had almost equal success on clay and outdoor hardcourts (with a difference of only 2.3% and 2.6%, respectively, in their % totals for the two surfaces).
  • Over 50% of Del Potro, Murray, Djokovic and Berdych’s ranking points were won on outdoor hardcourts.
