Stanislas Wawrinka. Second fiddle. Perpetual underdog. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
Also a man who had one hell of a 2013. Some highlights:
- 6-1, 6-2 spanking of Andy Murray in the Monte Carlo round of 16.
- 6-1, 6-4 knockout of David Ferrer in the Oerias finals.
- B2B defeats of top ten opponents Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and Thomas Berdych in Madrid, before losing to Rafael Nadal (on clay) in the final.
- Successive three-set campaigns over Jerzy Janowicz and Richard Gasquet at Roland Garros before again losing to Rafael Nadal (on clay, this time at the French Open).
- Defeats of the journeymen Radek Stepanek, Dr. Ivo Karlovic, talented Marcos Baghdatis, aryan superman Thomas Berdych, and defending champion Andy Murray on the way to the US Open semi-finals.
