Australian Open 2014: Day 9 Women’s Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Na Li (CHN) [4] vs. Flavia Pennetta (ITA) [28] – Pennetta is a tough player who has gotten better with age (no easy task).  Na Li has one French Open title and two Australian Open runner-up finishes in recent years.  Li plays well in Melbourne and has more weapons than Pennetta.  For those reasons, I see Na Li advancing in 2 or 3 tight sets.

Don’t call it a comeback?

Ana Ivanovic (SRB) [14] vs. Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) [30] – Often the hardest game or match after a major upset in any sport is the next contest.  Ivanovic has to avoid a letdown and also face a strong opponent in Bouchard.  If Ivanovic were younger, I would likely pick the letdown and Bouchard.  I think Ana can stay focused enough on the task at hand to beat a less experienced opponent in 2 tight sets.
