Predicted Winners in Bold
Ksenia Pervak (RUS) vs. Maria Sharapova (RUS)[7] – In a battle of Russians, I’ll take the 2012 champion.
Alize Cornet (FRA)[20] vs. Ashleigh Barty (AUS) – Cornet should advance.
Dominika Cibulkova (SVK)[9] vs. Virginie Razzano (FRA) – The story of 2014 can get another Grand Slam win here.
Petra Kvitova (CZE)[5] vs. Zarina Diyas (KAZ) – Petra seems to be one of the nicest people on tour who has been afflicted with poor health. I hope her talent comes through again on the big stage.
Jelena Jankovic (SRB)[6] vs. Sharon Fichman (CAN) – JJ should win.
Sloane Stephens (USA)[15] vs. Shuai Peng (CHN) – An upset would not shock me here, but I will take the favorite.
Monica Puig (PUR) vs. Samantha Stosur (AUS)[19] – I will predict an upset here. Puig just won a tournament. This is not an ideal draw for Stosur.
Sofia Shapatava (GEO) vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS)[27] – Kuzy for old-time’s sake.
Andrea Petkovic (GER)[28] vs. Misaki Doi (JPN)
Romina Oprandi (SUI) vs. Paula Ormaechea (ARG)
Marina Erakovic (NZL) vs. Nadiya Kichenok (UKR)
Karin Knapp (ITA) vs. Mona Barthel (GER) – KK is a solid player.
Shahar Peer (ISR) vs. Eugenie Bouchard (CAN)[18] – This is a bad draw for both players, but Bouchard has a lot more momentum than Peer these days.
Teliana Pereira (BRA) vs. Luksika Kumkhum (THA)
Fiona Ferro (FRA) vs. Sabine Lisicki (GER)[16] – Lisicki should win here even if Wimbledon is probably a bigger priority for her.
Mathilde Johansson (FRA) vs. Karolina Pliskova (CZE)
Roberta Vinci (ITA)[17] vs [WC] Pauline Parmentier (FRA) – Vinci has a great game.
Anna Tatishvili (USA) vs. Kurumi Nara (JPN)
Tamira Paszek (AUT) vs. Alison Van Uytvanck (BEL)
Michelle Larcher De Brito (POR) vs. Julia Goerges (GER) – A 50-50 match
Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) vs. Maryna Zanevska (UKR)
Polona Hercog (SLO) vs. Jana Cepelova (SVK)
Bojana Jovanovski (SRB) vs. Camila Giorgi (ITA)
Christina McHale (USA) vs. Elena Vesnina (RUS)[32] – I’ll take McHale in a minor upset.
Taylor Townsend (USA) vs. Vania King (USA)
Flavia Pennetta (ITA)[12] vs. Patricia Mayr-Achleitner (AUT) – Flavia has had a nice resurgence in her late career.
Anna-Lena Friedsam (GER) vs. Stefanie Voegele (SUI)
Aleksandra Wozniak (CAN) vs. Sorana Cirstea (ROU)[26] – I’d love to pick and upset here, but I can’t.
