Maria Sharapova reached her third consecutive French Open final after overcoming 20-year-old newcomer Eugenie Bouchard 4-6, 7-5, 6-2in a match that lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours.
Bouchard tested Sharapova’s limits throughout the marathon match. She came out aiming for the lines, making Sharapova look uncomfortable as she ran from side-to-side to keep up with her opponent’s pace.
Sharapova found herself serving for the second set at 5-3, but despite having three set points, two double faults and an unforced error kept her from quickly forcing a third set. Bouchard would come back to win two straight games in a row for 5-5. The young Canadian served to stay in the set before netting a forehand to give her opponent the set 7-5.
