Wimbledon 2014: Day 10 Gentlemen’s Quarterfinal Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

This should be a special day of tennis.  There is a great mix of guys in their prime, veterans and up and coming players.

[3] Andy Murray  (GBR) vs. [11] Grigor Dimitrov  (BUL) – Dimitrov beat Murray in Acapulco.  Dimitrov won Queen’s Club.  Dimitrov is looking really solid, but Murray is the defending champion and favorite son.  I think Dimitrov can win this match, but he will have to deal with Murray’s return of serve.  Over a possible five sets, I think Murray can break serve often enough to win.  I think this match will be four tight sets though.

[4] Roger Federer (SUI) vs. [5] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) – Stan beat Roger in their last match. Stan has a Grand Slam title to his name.  Heck, if Stan wins 3 more matches here he could claim to be #1 computer be damned.  I think Roger will win this match in 4 sets, but this is close to a 50-50 Swiss Civil War.

[1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs. [26] Marin Cilic (ROU) – This is the most straightforward match on paper.  I think Novak wins in 3 or 4 sets.  Cilic is a talented and a solid grass court player, but Nole is the clear favorite on paper.

[WC] Nick Kyrgios (AUS) vs. [8] Milos Raonic (CAN) – Milos is in his second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal, he posted a great set of results in 2014’s Masters 1000 events, and on paper he’s favored here.  I think Kyrgios will more or less be able to match Milos’ serve and will ride some momentum through this match.  This is a 50-50 tilt in my eyes, but I think maybe just maybe the 19-year-old finds a way to keep shaking up the world.
