[15] Marin Cilic (CRO) vs Denis Istomin(UZB) H2H – This is not the easiest first round match for the recent Wimbledon quarterfinalist, but Cilic w/ Goran in his corner is playing well.

Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) vs Julien Benneteau (FRA) H2H – Bennetau has a very nice game, but I think Hewitt will find a way to advance in 3 sets.

[10] John Isner (USA) vs Ivan Dodig (CRO) H2H – Isner should win, but with John Isner he always has a chance, but if his return game is misfiring his opponent always has a chance too.  Dodig is a solid player so expect a close 2 or 3 sets.

[13] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA)H2H  – Tsonga needs a few wins.

Jerzy Janowicz (POL) vs [WC] Peter Polansky (CAN) H2H – Jerzy had a huge Bercy in 2012 and a huge Wimbledon in 2013.  He seems to build his year around one event.  Toronto could be that event.  In all seriousness, I think if Jerzy is healthy he can begin to build without the expectations his 2013 Wimbledon showing might have put on his shoulders.

Jérémy Chardy (FRA) vs Federico Delbonis (ARG) H2H

Kevin Anderson (RSA) vs [Q] Thanasi Kokkinakis (AUS) H2H – Anderson has had a nice 2014, but DC did not go his way.  A win here could help him keep the good times rolling.

Ivo Karlovic (CRO) vs [Q] Bernard Tomic (AUS) H2H – How to predict this one?  Dr. Ivo has been runner-up at 4 tournaments on 4 different surfaces in 2014 (pretty impressive).  Tomic has been up and down since he turned pro, but he took a title beating Ivo in the final a few weeks ago.  I think Ivo gets some revenge and wins in 2 or 3 tight sets.

[14] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) vs Feliciano Lopez (ESP) H2H – Lopez had a great grass court season and Agut took a title on grass as well.   On grass or indoors, I’d take FLo.  On Clay, I’d take Agut.  On hard courts, flip a coin, but I think Lopez advances.

Nicolas Mahut (FRA) vs [Q] Michael Russell (USA) H2H – This is a winnable match for Russell, but Mahut is maybe a 55-45 favorite.

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) vs [LL] Marinko Matosevic (AUS) – The lucky loser makes the most of a second chance.
