Predicted Winners in BOLD
Hopefully I do better than yesterday
[8] Andy Murray (GBR) vs. Joao Sousa (POR) – I watched Sousa up close on Monday. He’s a nice player with a big spinning forehand. He should not trouble Murray too much unless he can dictate points with his forehand throughout the match.
[2] Roger Federer (SUI) vs. Vasek Pospisil (CAN) – I could honestly see this match go either way, but Federer handled Canadian Content quite well at Wimbledon and has too much pedigree not to be favored here.
[13] Roberto Bautista-Agut (ESP) vs. Gaël Monfils (FRA) – If Monfils is on, he should win this match. Bautista-Agut is less likely to play poorly though so I am picking him.
[11] John Isner (USA) vs. [Q] Marinko Matosevic (AUS) – The Big Man should come through.
[5] Milos Raonic (CAN) vs. [WC] Robby Ginepri (USA) – Ginepri could win this match if he takes great care of his serve, but I think a long match today combined with Milos’ solid 2014 level of play spell an end to Ginepri’s run.
[7] Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) vs. Jerzy Janowicz (POL) – This match is worth the price of admission. Even if the match turns out to be one-sided, it could very well be a preview of future second week showdowns at Grand Slams. I love both players’ games so I am going with the guy who has been in better form for the past 12 months.
[16] Tommy Robredo (ESP) vs. [WC] Sam Querrey (USA) – If Robredo can get into Sam’s service games, he should be able to grind down Querrey.
[15] Fabio Fognini (ITA) vs. Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) – Two polarizing figures (to put it politely) will tangle. If Fabio is on his game, he should win. Lleyton played his first round match on Sunday and gets his second round match on Wednesday. Hewitt is not going to concede anything and Fognni Fogned it in last year at Cincinnati, so I think Lleyton will advance.
[4] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs. Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE) – In several events I have not picked Lu and he’s proven me wrong. He’ll be happy to know I am picking the Big Czech.
[6] David Ferrer (ESP) vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) – This is a lot closer to a 50-50 match than ranking positions would lead one to believe.
[9] Ernests Gulbis (LAT) vs. [WC] Steve Johnson (USA) – This strikes me as a trap match for Gulbis. Johnson with a wildcard has a huge opportunity to build up points and avoid qualifying rounds at future events. Johnson should have some fan support as well. If Gulbis is dialed in, he wins this match, but I know Johnson will be focused. Ernests may be thinking about how he could buy a stake in Kings Island amusement park across the street.
[14] Marin Cilic (CRO) vs. Fernando Verdasco (ESP) – Hot sauce had an epic first round win on Monday, but should be recovered. Cilic beat Lopez in a routine fashion. These guys are both quite talented. I could see Verdasco throw in a bad service game here or there though.
Andreas Seppi (ITA) vs. Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) – We need to see another salute.
Julien Benneteau (FRA) vs. [Q] James Ward (GBR) – Revenge for Agincourt? (too soon?)

At least you’re not “fogning” it in here!
When do we get the press room gossip scoops?
I’ll have something up on it soon, but Cincy always falls right when our school is kicking off again and I’ve been lucky to post anything really.
