Predicted Winners in BOLD
In addition to having a surface that can handle light rain, Roland Garros has been smart to add a 15th day to the event allowing for flexibility to get to the championship matches on time.
[3] Simon Halep (BUL) vs Evgeniya Rodina (RUS) – Is Halep a contender? Based on last year’s Roland Garros, her game, and her play through Miami, I’d say yes. Based on her play during the clay court season, Halep will have a hard time reaching the final 4 in Paris. Her early form will be quite important. I like her to win this match.
[31] Caroline Garcia (FRA) vs Donna Vekic (CRO) – Garcia played well recently. Still, a 31st seed does not mean she is a lock for round 2.
[9] Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) vs [WC] Louisa Chirico (USA)
[7] Ana Ivanovic (SRB) vs. Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) – I could see this going 3 sets.
[21] Garbine Muguruza (ESP) vs [Q] Petra Martic (CRO) – Garbine is one of my favorite players. I’d like to think bias or no she wins this match.
[WC] Océane Dodin (FRA) vs. Kurumi Nara (JPN) – Home clay edge?
Tatjana Maria (GER) vs. Camila Giorgi (ITA)
[13] Lucie Safarova (CZE) vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) – This should be a good match.
Bojana Jovanovski (SRB) vs. Lesia Tsurenko (UKR)
Petra Cetkovska (CZE) vs. Misaki Doi (JPN)
Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK) vs. [Q] Olivia Rogowska (AUS)
[24] Shuai Peng (CHN) vs. Polona Hercog (SLO)
[WC] Fiona Ferro (FRA) vs. [Q] Teliana Pereira (BRA) – She should be match tough.
[28] Flavia Pennetta (ITA) vs Magda Linette (POL)
Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (CRO) vs. Lauren Davis (USA)
Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) vs. Elena Vesnina (RUS) – Flipkins has had some nice moments in Melbourne. I don’t think that carries over to Paris.
