British number one Andy Murray is giving tennis fans the opportunity to win a priceless piece of sporting memorabilia while raising money for a cancer charity. The white tennis ball which is signed by Britain’s last two Wimbledon champions, Murray and Fred Perry is being auctioned off to raise money for St James and St Peter Hospice in Sussex.

The ball’s original owner, Gail Sargent, who was a lifelong tennis player and fan died from cancer, spent the last months of her life in the Sussex Hospice met Perry in 1994 and got him to sign three white tennis balls. Ten years ago she saw a young Murray play and was so impressed with his potential that she gave him the balls. When Murray won Wimbledon he signed the balls too. Another one of the three balls has been donated by Murray and his wife Kim to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum to be on permanent displayed…
