Predicted Winners in BOLD
[4] Maria Sharapova (RUS) vs [WC] Johanna Konta (GBR) – The UK would love an upset, but no it is not happening.
[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs [Q] Margarita Gasparyan (RUS) – 1/2 way to a calendar slam & 3/4 of the way done with Serena Slam II. I like Serena to advance.
[6] Lucie Safarova (CZE) vs Alison Riske (USA) – This is not an easy draw. Riske has posted big wins and plays with confidence versus highly ranked players. Still, Safarova being a lefty is a big edge.
[32] Caroline Garcia (FRA) vs Heather Watson (GBR) – This is a hard one to predict, but I like a mild upset here.
[7] Ana Ivanovic (SRB) vs [Q] Yi-Fan Xu (CHN) – Ana should win, but if her serve is shaky anything could happen.
[16] Venus Williams (USA) vs Madison Brengle (USA) – This is not an easy draw for Venus, but I think the 5-time champion advances.
[23] Victoria Azarenka (BLR) vs [WC] Anett Kontaveit (EST) – Former Soviet Republic duel
[22] Samantha Stosur (AUS) vs Danka Kovinic (MNE) – Stosur can and should win, but I am never too certain with her.
[30] Belinda Bencic (SUI) vs Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) – The Swiss Miss II just won a grass court event.
[14] Andrea Petkovic (GER) vs Shelby Rogers (USA) – Petkovic could do well here.
Timea Babos (HUN) vs [Q] Petra Cetkovska (CZE) – Czechs are doing well on the WTA tour and she should be match tough from the qualifying rounds.
Alexandra Dulgheru (ROU) vs Kristina Mladenovic (FRA)
[Q] Su-Wei Hsieh (TPE) vs Kaia Kanepi (EST)
Vitalia Diatchenko (RUS) vs Anna-Lena Friedsam (GER)
[29] Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) vs Daria Gavrilova (AUS) – A mild upset?
Edina Gallovits-Hall (USA) vs Urszula Radwanska (POL) – The younger Radwanska should get through.
[9] Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) vs [WC] Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) – I am not sure how well her sweeping strokes will do on the green grass of day one, but CSN should win.
Alison Van Uytvanck (BEL) vs [Q] Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) – Just for the sake of her personality, I hope she hangs around in the singles draw for some time. Keep an eye on her in doubles play as well.
Nicole Gibbs (USA) vs Lesia Tsurenko (UKR)
[24] Flavia Pennetta (ITA) vs Zarina Diyas (KAZ) – Another mild upset? I doubt it as Flavia is a tough veteran.
Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) vs Annika Beck (GER) – This should be an excellent match. If you have tickers, check it out.
Aleksandra Krunic (SRB) vs Roberta Vinci (ITA) – Vinci’s variety carries the day.
Polona Hercog (SLO) vs Lauren Davis (USA)
Coco Vandeweghe (USA) vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (SVK)
Lin Zhu (CHN) vs [Q] Aliaksandra Sasnovich (BLR)
Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) vs Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) – The battle for Slovakia.
[11] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) vs Irina Falconi (USA) –
[9] Sara Errani (ITA) vs Francesca Schiavone (ITA) – If Errani can hold serve, her hans should help her on the new grass. Schiavone’s shots may not like a green grass court.
[Q] Richel Hogenkamp (NED) vs Qiang Wang (CHN)
Marina Erakovic (NZL) vs Yulia Putintseva (KAZ)
Mariana Duque-Marino (COL) vs [WC] Naomi Broady (GBR)
[27] Barbora Strycova (CZE) vs Sloane Stephens (USA) – Sloane played well in Paris so I think she advances here as well despite the surfaces being quite different.
