Wimbledon 2015: July 1st Ladies’ Singles Predictions

Both Williams Sisters are in Singles Action on July 1st

 

Predicted Winners in BOLD

S WILLIAMS (US) v T Babos (Hun) – Call me crazy, but I like Serena to win this match.

D Hantuchova (Svk) v H Watson (GB) – I think the home court edge will help Watson prevail over the veteran.

M SHARAPOVA (Rus) v R Hogenkamp (Neth) – I figure Sharapova should also advance.

Y Putintseva (Kaz) v V WILLIAMS (US) – Based on round 1, I like Venus’ chances in round 2.

B Mattek-Sands (US) v A IVANOVIC (Ser) – I’d love to see an upset, but Ivanovic will likely have too much game to lose this match.

U Radwanska (Pol) v S STOSUR (Aus) – Stosur should win against the younger Radwanska, but my gut is telling me this is an upset.

M Duque Marino (Col) v A PETKOVIC (Ger) – Petkovic, like Venus, looked impressive in round 1.

S ERRANI (It) v A Krunic (Ser) – Errani has great hands at the net, and while that may not matter as much as it once did on grass, it still matters on grass.

B BENCIC (Swi) v A-L Friedsam (Ger) – I am somewhat neutral on this match.

 

K Flipkens (Bel) v V AZARENKA (Blr) – Vika will need to be sharp against a dangerous opponent.

Z Diyas (Kaz) v A Sasnovich (Blr) – I thought Diyas would lose in round one, but she showed a lot of quality in winning that match.

S Stephens (US) v L Davis (US) – Sloane seems to slowly be rebuilding her game.  Perhaps she can call Bouchard after this event.

L Tsurenko (Ukr) v I-C BEGU (Rom) – This match is a bit of a toss-up in my mind.

K PLISKOVA (Cz) v C Vandeweghe (US) – Czech players seem to be everywhere on the WTA Tour and this makes me think their player development and support system must be pretty sound.

J Ostapenko (Lat) v K Mladenovic (Fr) – Mladennovic played well in the first round so I will tab her to win here.

Hsieh S-w (Tai) v L SAFAROVA (Cz) – I had Safarova in my semis when I first glanced at the draw.  I think surviving a tough match should have her on a good path for advancing to the 3rd round.
