Rusty’s Last Stand in DC?
Alexandr Dolgopolov and Lleyton Hewitt will kick off their Washington, D.C. campaigns on Tuesday. They are set for respective meetings with Tim Smyczek and John-Patrick Smith.
Alexandr Dolgopolov vs. Tim Smyczek
Dolgopolov and Smyczek will be going head-to-head for the third time in their careers when they clash in round two of the Citi Open on Tuesday. Both of their previous encounters have gone Dolgopolov’s way; 7-6(3), 6-4 last season in Indian Wells and 6-2, 6-4 a few months ago in Delray Beach. Smyczek once again has home-court advantage in the United States, but that has hardly mattered for him in the past against the Ukrainian nor did it pay off at tournaments earlier this summer. Smyczek lost in the opening round in both Newport and Atlanta, extending his losing streak to four and making it nine dropped sets in a row without a single one going to a tiebreaker.
