Tennis Power Ranking 2013: Post Montreal

Power Ranking 2013 #10

A lot of movement as one would expect following a 1000 Series Event

1.  Rafael Nadal – Rafa already has 4 Masters 1000 titles in 2013!  Add in 2000 points from Roland Garros and Rafa has banked 6000 ranking points in 5 events.  His win versus Nole pushes Rafa back to the top.  Change since last ranking +2

2.  Novak Djokovic – The triumvirate at the top are closely linked.  Nole played well enough in Montreal to stay put, but confidence wise he is the furthest removed from a big win.

3.  Andy Murray – A Wimbledon hangover was to be expected, but his listless win and listless loss in Canada dropped him 2 spots.  Change since last ranking – 2

4.  Juan Martin del Potro – He did not maintain his DC momentum in the manner that he did in 2009, but no one else did enough to knock him down.

5.  David Ferrer – He has earned the right to a poor showing, but Cincinnati could lead to a drop.

6.  Tommy Haas – See #5.

7.  Jerzy Janowicz – He can add a lot of ranking points between now and the indoor season.  Jerzy played pretty well against an in-form Nadal so he gets a boost.  Change since last ranking + 2

8.  Fabio Fognini – He did not play well enough in Canada for me to expect him to stay in the top 10, but he has banked a lot of points since Wimbledon ended.  Chance since last ranking – 1

9.  Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – He needs to get healthy.

10.  Roger Federer (Tie) – Federer is in danger of dropping out of my top 10.  I watched him practice for 30 minutes this past Thursday in Cincinnati.  He tends to play well in this event so maybe he gains momentum heading into NY.

10.  Milos Raonic (Tie) – His play in the championship match prevented me from placing him any higher, but reaching his first Masters 1000 final was a big step.  The next step might be kicking his mobility up another level.  Change since last ranking – not ranked

Biggest Mover – Rafael Nadal and Jerzy Janowicz climbed 2 spots, and Andy Murray dropped 2 spots.

Entered the Poll – Milos Raonic – Does he take more positives or negatives out of Montreal?

Dropped Out – John Isner – Can he rebound on US soil in Cincinnati?
