Serena Williams (1) vs. Sloane Stephens (15) – This could be a good match, but I think Serena has to be the pick regardless of Melbourne.
Agnieszka Radwanska (3) vs. Ekaterina Makarova (24) – Radwanska lacks power and could get pushed around for awhile, but I think she wins in straight sets.
Na Li (5) vs. Jelena Jankovic (9) – Na li played well in her Cincinnati semifinal, and JJ did not.
Angelique Kerber (8) vs. Carla Suarez Navarro (18) – I love Navarro’s one-hander. Kerber strikes me as a player who could work her way up if things break her was as her lefty forehand is a real weapon that could pose problems to anyone on the tour. Kerber was unseeded in 2012 and is now the 8th seed. I think that says something.

I’m pulling for Sloane but I think Serena will win.
There are almost all matches that could go either way. Navarro might upset Kerber (this would be my first pick for the upset); JJ might beat Li, and I’d even give Makarova a shot versus Aggy, kind of like Sloane has a shot versus Serena.
Hopefully there are no routs and the matches are good!

Well Serena and Li Na came through rather easily in the end. And as I thought Navarro got the upset.
I was more surprised by Makarova, although I knew she had a shot.
Yeah, Makarova played awfully well.
