Power Ranking 2013 #14
1. Rafael Nadal – I said Rafa had locked up the #1 slot on my Power Ranking for 2013 after the US Open. If Nole wins out, I will have to revise that pronouncement. Rafa has not done anything wrong since the US Open ended, but this time of year has never been his favorite. His post-USO results look a lot like those of previous years.
2. Novak Djokovic – Nole gets engaged, wins Beijing by beating Rafa, wins Shanghai for his second Masters 1000 title of the year, and then wins Paris. Not a bad way to mount a charge after losing the US Open.
3. David Ferrer – Three consecutive runner-up finishes have Ferrer climbing. Especially after beating Rafa in Paris. Change since last ranking + 4
4. Juan Martin del Potro – Delpo won Basel and looks solid for 2014. The theft in Paris hopefully does not shake his confidence.
5. Andy Murray – His Wimbledon win locks him at #5, but in terms of momentum he has dropped a few spots. Change since last ranking – 2
6. Roger Federer – His runner-up finish in Basel and pushing Nole at the semis in Paris help Roger to climb back into my rankings. Change since last ranking – not ranked
7. Stanislas Wawrinka – Stan has not played great tennis as of late, but London’s Calling. Change since last ranking – 2
8. Richard Gasquet – Gasquet is holding steady, but he’s not playing quite as well as he was one month ago.
9. Tomas Berdych – He seems a little off lately but his quarterfinal finish in Paris was not a bad showing.
10. Milos Raonic – Milos has had a nice year, but he misses London and drops to #10. Change since last ranking -2
Dropped Out: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – His injury plagued post French Open season prevents Tsonga from finishing in my top 10.
Entered the Poll: Roger Federer – He has not been great over the past two tournaments but he outperformed everyone ranked behind him for 2 consecutive weeks.
Biggest Mover: David Ferrer jumped 4 spots based on 3 near misses.
