Australian Open 2014: Radwanska vs. Cibulkova Prediction

Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) [20] vs. Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) [5]

Cibulkova and Radwanska get a short turn around, but since week long WTA events have players in back-to-back matches on most days this should not be a problem.  Cibulkova only dropped 3 games yesterday so she should be healthy.  Radwanska did drop a set to Vika, but only lost 1 game in the 2 sets she won so she should not be fatigued either.  Radwanska came close to winning Wimbledon in 2012 by pushing Serena Williams hard.  Last year, she had an opportunity to perhaps win Wimbledon and suffered a tough 3 set loss to Sabine Lisicki.  I think Radwanska is ready to take her first major title.  To do so she will need to beat an in-form Cibulkova and likely Na Li, but I think the finish line is there for her.

 Prediction: Radwanska d. Cibulkova 6-2, 6-3

I want Aggie to win. I am hoping someone who’s never won a slam wins this – ideally Aggy or Genie. Na Li is the likely champ though; she’s always done well at the AO.

I agree. I’d like to see a new Grand Slam champion. I think tennis needs it. Of course, on the men’s side if Fed gets to 18 I’d be delighted.

We need a new winner on the men’s side too! Stan or Berdman

Well, it’s looking like Na Li as I’d be really surprised if Cibuklova beats her, but wow, kudos to her for making the final! Who knew?

Yeah strange, but Cibulkova keeps pulling surprises.
