Indian Wells 2014 Final Prediction: Djokovic vs. Federer

Novak Djokovic (2) vs. Roger Federer (7)

The head-to-head between these two champions stands at 17-15 in favor of Federer.  Each man has produced some instant classic tennis when playing the other.  Federer’s smash lob versus Nole at the 2008 US Open stands out as moment in my memory.  Nole’s 2008 Australian Open semifinal demolition of Federer was a testament to where his career was headed.  Federer derailed Nole’s perfect start to 2011 in the Roland Garros semifinal round only to have Nole save 2 match points and come from 2 sets down to win the 2011 US Open semifinal.

I am not going to spend a lot of time breaking down their games and their strengths (not many weaknesses to comment on for either guy).  They are known commodities.  They have been great ambassadors for tennis.  This should be fun.

I think form favors Roger who is enjoying his more powerful racquet.  Since 2011, Nole has entered more of the prime years of his career whereas Roger is in his thirties.  It could cut either way, but I tweeted Brad Gilbert this prediction and I should stick to it:

Federer d. Djokovic 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
