The Championships, Wimbledon: The Seeds

That Tennis Blog

It’s that special time of the year for tennis fans! Time for strawberries and cream, time to see some serve and volleying and time to see some slips and tumbles – yes, it’s Wimbledon time!

As most of you are probably aware, Wimbledon does not make use of the ATP rankings entirely to determine seeds for the tournament. How is the seeding done? Simple (well, actually not)!

First, the powers that be look at a players ATP rankings points as of the week before Wimbledon starts (16 June). They then add all the points the player accumulated on grass in the past 12 months. In addition to that, they also add 75% of the points the player received on grass for the 12 months before that.

The seeds for Wimbledon 2014:

DJOKOVIC, Novak (SRB) [1]
NADAL, Rafael (ESP) [2]
MURRAY, Andy (GBR) [3]
FEDERER, Roger (SUI) [4]
