US Open 2014 Day 1 Quick Hits & The Outer Courts are Back

Quick Hits

  • Nick Kyrgios won a spirited 4 set match with Mikhail Youzhny demonstrating that his health may be where it needs to be to make a splash in NY
  • Andy Murray put in a survive and advance first day
  • Fernando “Hot Sauce” Verdasco won his 400th match in a 5 set thriller
  • Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams had to go 3 sets, but Aga Radwanska did a Panera impersonation handing out a bagel and a breadstick

The Outer Courts are Back

The Tennis Channel has put Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones and Drew Frankin back to work in tennis at the 2014 US Open.  Be sure to check out their off-beat approach to covering tennis at The Outer Courts.  It is nice not being the only Kentuckian covering the US Open even if I am doing so from south of the Ohio River.
