Shuai Peng (CHN) vs. Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) [10]

In many ways, Peng and Wozniacki have been the two most impressive players in the 2014 US Open.  Both are in good enough form to roll through this match and reach the final.  So who wins when two players are playing so well?  If neither freezes in the headlights, I think the winner will be the player who can seize the moment.  Wozniacki seems to be on a run of destiny after the way she rebounded from her second set loss to Maria Sharapova.  My predictions is all based on a gut feeling as I do think Peng is playing outstanding tennis.  Prediction: Caroline Wozniacki d. Serena Williams (USA) [1] vs. Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) [17]

Almost everyone is going to pick Serena Williams to win this match.  I am not going to buck that trend.  I am impressed with Makarova’s willingness to battle on court and her consistency is an asset in tennis.  Makarova did defeat Serena in straight sets at the 2012 Australian Open.  Serena will have to earn this win, but I think she will do just that.  Prediction: Serena Williams d. Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-1
