Quick Hits: Sock, Kerber, Schmiedlova, & Klizan Grab Titles

  • Jack Sock won an All-US final in Houston by defeating Sam Querrey 7-6, 7-6.  Sock is 10-2 in 2015.  His heavy forehand gives him a true weapon.  Sock may find himself typically residing within the top 30 on the ATP Tour.
  • Angelique Kerber managed to avoid a lot of near losses while grabbing the title in South Carolina.  After trailing 1-4 in the final set, Kerber rallied to take the title 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
  • Sam Querrey’s runner-up finish in Houston is a good sign for his form as well.
  • Madison Keys fought back nicely today, but perhaps felt a few nerves late in the 3rd set.  With experience, Keys will likely learn to finish matches like these with wins more and more often.
  • Anna Schmiedlova took the title in Poland.  She is a player to watch during the clay court swing as confidence can make a huge difference to a player’s results.
  • Martin Klizan confirmed his status as a talented if not mercurial player on the ATP Tour with a title in Morocco.
