Predicted Winners in BOLD
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI (DEN) V SIMONA HALEP (ROU) – This match is worth the price of admission. Each player is quite fit and can make fitness an issue for an opponent with determined retrieving. Wozniacki has not yet found her 2014 level in 2015. Halep could use some clay court momentum to add to her near miss versus Serena in Miami. With Sharapova faltering a bit as of late, Halep may be the story heading into Roland Garros. She will be seeking her first major and perhaps putting to rest any nerves that have at times hampered her play. She will also likely have to beat either Sharapova or Serena (and maybe both) to win her first major. I think Halep has a bit more offense than Wozniacki and is a bit sharper at the moment. I think Halep wins in 2 sets w/ at least one set being competitive.
ANGELIQUE KERBER (GER) V MADISON BRENGLE (USA) – It is a great story for Brengle to be in this spot. She collected a nice win over a regrouping Petra Kvitova. Brengle’s problem is that Kerber is playing on home soil and playing at a high level. Kerber won in South Carolina on green clay and has dispatched some quality opposition in Stuttgart to keep her winning streak alive. I think Kerber wins a fairly easy match.
