Predicted Winners in BOLD
(This is an incredible slate of matches)
Roger Federer (SUI) vs Nick Kyrgios (AUS) – I could see this going either way as Roger may be pacing himself for Paris. However, if Gasquet can solve Kyrgios on clay, shouldn’t Roger be able to do the same?
“We played a few games on Sunday, finished a match on Monday, and now play on Wednesday?”
Andy Murray (GBR) vs Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) – This seems a bit cruel to both men, but it should be great for the fans. I think Murray wins in 3 sets over Kohlschreiber for the second time in 3 days.
Kei Nishikori (JPN) vs David Goffin (BEL) H2H – This is the match I most want to see. I think it should be a lot of fun for fans, but Nishikori is the favorite based on his results in Spain and overall game.
Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) vs Sam Querrey (USA) – 4 US players in the round of 32 on clay in Madrid? Well I don’t think all 4 advance to the round of 16.
John Isner (USA) vs [Q] Thomaz Bellucci (BRA) – Bellucci leads the head-to-head 2-0, but I think Isner secretly likes dirt more than we’d expect. I think John finds a way with at least one set going to a tiebreak.
Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs Richard Gasquet (FRA) H2H – The Big Czech has been quite consistent in 2015. He is #2 in points earned since January 1. Gasquet just won a title and feels healthy. This could be quite good, but Berdych has been too consistent for me to predict a loss here.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs Jack Sock (USA) – This could be interesting. Sock’s forehand has so much spin on it that he can develop into a headache on clay. I am not sure he is there yet though.
