French Open 2015: June 1st Women’s Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Sunday Rain has Produced Quite a Slate of Matches

[2] Maria Sharapova (RUS) vs [13] Lucie Safarova (CZE) – I will stick with my Sunday pick.

[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs Sloane Stephens (USA) – I like Serena to win, but I also think Sloane’s backhand down the line can cause problems on clay because opponents get wrong-footed expecting a crosscourt backhand rally.  Still, I think Serena avenges Venus.

[21] Garbine Muguruza (ESP) vs [28] Flavia Pennetta (ITA) – I’ll stick with my Sunday pick as I think the match is on Garbine’s racquet.  If the Spaniard plays clean tennis, she wins.  If Muguruza sprays errors, Flavia likely advances.

[4] Petra Kvitova (CZE) vs [23] Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) – Petra’s play in Madrid is why I am bullish on her in Paris.

[17] Sara Errani (ITA) vs Julia Goerges (GER) – I have to pick at least one upset (don’t I?).

Andreea Mitu (ROU) vs Alison Van Uytvanck (BEL) – Both players have to be excited about their ranking coming out of Paris, but one of them will be more excited still.
