Predicted Winners in BOLD: The 2nd Round Begins
We’ve been doing this longer than the courts have been blue – Serena and Venus
[19] Madison Keys (USA) vs. Tereza Smitkova (CZE) – Keys has made a name for herself in 2015, but this could be a dangerous match.
[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs. [Q] Kiki Bertens (NED) – I like Serena to win this match.
[23] Venus Williams (USA) vs Irina Falconi (USA) – Can Venus string together a few wins and make things interesting?
[WC] Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) vs. Coco Vandeweghe (USA) – Coco’s serve and game should give her an edge, but I think Mattek-Sands doubles game should help her with returning and make for an upset.
Madison Brengle (USA) vs. [Q] Anna Tatishvili (USA) – Brengle is a solid favorite here.
[25] Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) vs. Polona Hercog (SLO) – Bouchard did reach the quarterfinal round in Melbourne so she has had good hard court results in 2015.
[31] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) vs [Q] Anett Kontaveit (EST)
Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) vs [Q] Jessica Pegula (USA) – Dominika should follow up her upset win with an expected win.
[LL] Daria Kasatkina (RUS) vs. Ana Konjuh (CRO)
[17] Elina Svitolina (UKR) s. Kaia Kanepi (EST) – This is a match to watch up close if one has tickets. Both players can really go.
Denisa Allertova (CZE) vs. Roberta Vinci (ITA) – Vinci has nice variety and that might be enough.
[12] Belinda Bencic (SUI) vs. Misaki Doi (JPN) – The conquest of Toronto has made a deep run in New York quite plausible.
Bojana Jovanovski (SRB) vs. Kristina Mladenovic (FRA)
Mariana Duque-Marino (COL) vs. [WC] Oceane Dodin (FRA) – The French Fed sees potential or they would not have given her this Wild Card in an exchange with the USTA. I think Dodin wins a winnable match.
[15] Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) vs Magda Linette (POL) – “You should not have beaten my little sister.”
[13] Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) vs Lauren Davis (USA) – Makarova is a lot of fun to watch.
