US Open 2015: September 4th Women’s Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

We could see a rematch very soon

[13] Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) vs [17] Elina Svitolina (UKR) – This is a hard one to predict.  Elina has the game to win this match, but in a close match I am going to favor experience.

[12] Belinda Bencic (SUI) vs [23] Venus Williams (USA) – Venus has not looked great to this point.  She will need to be at her best versus Bencic.

[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs [WC] Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) – Serena should get through this one without too much of a fight, but despite top 10 seeds falling in her half of the draw there will be no cakewalk to the final after this round.  Mattek-Sands has some small chance to win due to being a bit crazy.

[25] Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) vs. Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) – Bouchard has reclaimed some hope with 2 wins in NY, but her last match went 3 sets.  Cibulkova is a fighter and will battle for every inch of ground.  I think both players will dig in and produce a great match, but I think Cibulkova will use some of her Melbourne magic to advance in a different hard court major.

[15] Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) vs [19] Madison Keys (USA) – Keys is more than capable of winning this match, but Aga seems to be returning to her old winning self. If Keys keeps her error total low, Aga is in trouble.  I think at some point though experience will pay dividends.

[LL] Daria Kasatkina (RUS) vs. Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) – Daria has been doing well playing with the house’s money.  Can she keep winning when least expected?

[Q] Anett Kontaveit (EST) vs. Madison Brengle (USA) – A huge opportunity awaits both players.  I just wonder how much the qualifier has left in the tank.

Roberta Vinci (ITA) vs. Mariana Duque-Marino (COL) – I have gone back and forth on this one.  Vinci is known more for doubles, but her game is quite well-rounded. I undervalued the Columbian badly in round 2.  I will not make that mistake twice.
