Predicted Winners in BOLD
“We’re not playing at Halle? Doesn’t seem right.”
Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) vs. Roger Federer (SUI) – These two should put on a fun match, but Roger likely has too much heft for Kohlschreiber to win 3 sets.
Thomaz Bellucci (BRA) vs. Andy Murray (GBR) – Bellucci has played quite well in this event, but Murray knows he needs to take care of business and save his legs after a long second round match.
John Isner (USA) vs. Jiri Vesely (CZE) – Isner has a very workable draw through 3 rounds. I think he makes it work and thanks the draw gods that Kohlschreiber is not his 3rd round opponent.
Stan Wawrinka (SUI) vs. Ruben Bemelmans (BEL) – Stan has Slogged through 6 sets to this point. I expect him to win again in straight sets.
Bernard Tomic (AUS) vs. Richard Gasquet (FRA) – This could go either way, but Gasquet has been quite solid as of late and Tomic may be fatigued.
Viktor Troicki (SRB) vs. Donald Young (USA) – Young is a decent pick for an upset win here.
Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) – GGL has a chance, but Berdych has to be the pick.
Kevin Anderson (RSA) vs. Dominic Thiem (AUT) – This is a tough one. Anderson has immediate momentum from North Carolina, but Thiem had a breakout summer. Anderson’s serve is the biggest weapon in this match, but Thiem’s variety is a real factor. To me this is a 50-50 match, but I think Thiem being a bit younger may play a bit loser and find a way to win in 4 or 5 sets.
