Kei Nishikori vs. Tomas Berdych
Neither guy showed a lot in their first match so either could be ripe for a one-sided loss. Â Nishikori holds a 3-1 head-to-head advantage, but they have not played since 2012. Â I think this match comes down to health and to recent form. Â Nishikori does not seem to be playing well as of late. Rumblings were that he is not healthy during his match versus Djokovic. Â I am not sure when Kei is ever 100% according to experts or his camp, but I think his form and fitness are a factor. Â Berdych can win so long as he backs Nishikori off the baseline. Â If Berdych’s serve and returns allow him to push Kei backwards, I think Berdych wins pretty easily. Â If Kei can stay on top of the baseline or inside the baseline, he will rob time from the Big Czech and have a great chance at victory. Â Based on recent form, I think the former is the more likely scenario.
My Prediction: Tomas Berdych d. Kei Nishikori 7-5, 6-3
