Ridiculously Early 2016 Olympic Singles Medal Predictions

I forgot to do my Olympic predictions with my earlier 2016 Grand Slam predictions.  These will likely be equally inaccurate and funny to look at after the fact.  The Olympic games will be held on hard courts, will feature 2 out of 3 set matches for everything but the men’s gold medal match.  Also, two bronze medals will be awarded rather than having the two semifinal losers face off for a bronze.  Notably, Novak Djokovic in 2012 and Roger Federer in 2000 would have an additional bronze medal if these rules were in place then.

Men’s Singles Medal Predictions

Gold: Novak Djokovic – Brazil’s decision to use hard courts tilts things in Nole’s direction.

Silver: Roger Federer – Roger adds to his silver collection.

Bronze: Milos Raonic – Canada strikes bronze!

Bronze: Marin Cilic – The Croatian can play on hard courts.

Women’s Singles Medal Predictions

Gold: Victoria Azarenka – Vika adds to her 2012 Olympic haul that included a bronze in singles and a gold in mixed doubles.

Silver: Serena Williams – Serena has 3 gold medals in doubles and 1 gold in singles.  I expect her and Venus to win a 4th gold in doubles, but that might pull some focus away from the singles event.

Bronze: Garbine Muguruza – This should be a good building block for the young Spaniard.

Bronze: Petra Kvitova – The Czechs have done so well in Federation Cup I should have one of them winning a singles medal in Brazil.
