The upset bug bypassed Vika
With defeats to Simona Halep and Venus Williams already on Day 2 suddenly the bottom half of the draw opened up with a massive chance for Azarenka a former champion in Melbourne twice before to potentially have another good tournament down under and she didn’t mess around!
Azarenka’s match against Alison Van Uytvanck didn’t begin until just before 11pm local time however that didn’t seem to bother the Belarusian who quickly found herself 4-0 up in under quarter of an hour playing at such a high tempo and rushing her opponent into making errors early on.
The former champion broke serve once again to take a commanding 5-0 lead and in her next game Alison did cause some trouble for Vika getting to 30-30 but nothing was going to stop the 14th seed from securing the set 6-0 in just 24 minutes.
