One of the reasons we love living in Melbourne is the fact that Melbourne is one of the sporting capitals of the world. January means it’s Open Season: the first Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season takes over the entire city.

We got our first taste of the Open Season at Southbank, even before the tournament had started. The Crown opened a riverside garden with a big screen to watch the matches, live music and of course drinks and food. When we were there Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikuri were interviewed on stage. Kei is very popular in Japan and well before his appearance the garden was filled with families preparing for a glimpse of their hero.
