Angelique Kerber vs. Johanna Konta

This is a great opportunity for both players.  I have gotten Konta wrong in virtually every round.  I think she very well could eliminate Kerber particularly because Kerber’s serve is vulnerable.  Still, Kerber competes like crazy and looks very sharp between her showing here and her play in Brisbane.  I think Kerber’s lefty game and fighting spirit win the day so long as she takes care of her service game.  If Kerber gets broken too often, I think scoreboard pressure will weigh on the seeded favorite.

My Prediction: Angelique Kerber d. Johanna Konta 6-4, 6-3 as Kerber employs a Jimmy Connorsesque lefty serve that is not overpowering but is hard to jump on
