Predicted Winners in BOLD
Sorry about yesterday’s unplanned hiatus. As a teacher, this is a busy time, and I could not give any time to tennis yesterday.
[8] Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) vs Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) – Bouchard is having a nice event to this point, but this is a real test. If she passes it, maybe her injuries and
[26] Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) vs Timea Babos (HUN)
[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs. Teliana Pereira (BRA) – I think Serena may benefit from clay in her quest for 22 majors as clay may force her to slow down a little.
[9] Venus Williams (USA) vs [Q] Louisa Chirico (USA) – The qualifier has a great opportunity here, but I think Venus is the winner.
[14] Ana Ivanovic (SRB) vs Kurumi Nara (JPN) – Ivanovic may be able to use a good draw in Paris to revamp her year.
[29] Daria Kasatkina (RUS) vs [WC] Virginie Razzano (FRA) – I will take a veteran in her home country to pull a mild upset.
[12] Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) vs. Qiang Wang (CHN)
Alizé Cornet (FRA) vs. Tatjana Maria (GER) – Cornet has a nice opportunity here.
Pauline Parmentier (FRA) vs. Irina Falconi (USA) – Home soil love?
[15] Madison Keys (USA) vs Mariana Duque-Marino (COL) – Keys’ play in Rome impressed me.
Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) vs. Karin Knapp (ITA) – Knapp’s big upset opens the draw up for someone. Why not her?
Kiki Bertens (NED) vs. Camila Giorgi (ITA)
[18] Elina Svitolina (UKR) vs [WC] Taylor Townsend (USA) – This is a fun glimpse at the future, but Svitolina could go deep in 2016.
Julia Goerges (GER) vs. Monica Puig (PUR) – I love Puig and when I pick her she usually loses. In a world of correlation not being causation, that probably means nothing.
[28] Andrea Petkovic (GER) vs. Yulia Putintseva (KAZ)
[22] Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) vs Ana Konjuh (CRO)
