Predicted Winners in BOLD

[6] Roberta Vinci (ITA) v [27] Coco Vandeweghe (USA) – Coco is playing at a high level on grass.  It is not a huge reach to see her defeat Vinci.

[1] Serena Williams (USA) v Annika Beck (GER) – Serena had a scare and a fine last round. I don’t think Serena is invulnerable, but I do think she is the clear favorite to win this title.  She is beatable, but someone obviously has to do it.

[13] Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS) v [18] Sloane Stephens (USA) – I think Sloane has the higher ceiling and lower floor between these two in 2016.  I’d like to think a high level of tennis is played and that would favor Sloane.

[11] Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) v [21] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) – This is another match that is hard to predict.

[24] Barbora Strycova (CZE) v Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) – Makarova winning would not be an upset in my mind, but the rankings and seedings beg to differ.
