Predicted Winners in BOLD
KVITOVA Petra vs. WOZNIACKI Caroline – This should be a fun match. It is also unpredictable given how many bad losses each of them have had in 2016. I think Petra should win due to the slow court and her ability to hit through it.
BOUCHARD Eugenie vs. KERBER Angelique – The world #2 should win this match, but Bouchard has shown signs of life since Wimbledon ended.
WILLIAMS Serena vs. CORNET Alize – Serena’s loss in doubles and her sister’s singles loss may leave her feeling flat or may have her locked in to this match. Cornet is no easy opponent and has an upset win over Serena at a major in her resume. Still, Serena should win.
KEYS Madison vs. MLADENOVIC Kristina – Keys is favored, but this match could be close.
STOSUR Samantha vs. DOI Misaki – Stosur is an interesting player to watch in this event. She can serve and hit forehands well enough to win several matches, or she could lose inexplicably.
KONJUH Ana vs. SUAREZ NAVARRO Carla – CSN came through after a tough first set versus Ivanovic in the first round. I think this will be a more straight forward win for the Spaniard.
GARCIA Caroline vs. KONTA Johanna – Konta could very well medal in Rio.
MUGURUZA Garbine vs. HIBINO Nao – Muguruza has to love the pace of this surface.
PUIG Monica vs. PAVLYUCHENKOVA Anastasia – Puig needs to avoid being overpowered and counter-punch.
KUZNETSOVA Svetlana vs. NICULESCU Monica – This is a 50-50 match, but I lean slightly toward the veteran.
WATSON Heather vs. SVITOLINA Elina – Svitolina has a lot of momentum from recent events.
MAKAROVA Ekaterina vs. SCHMIEDLOVA Anna Karolina – I might be making a bad call here.
STRYCOVA Barbora vs. ERRANI Sara – Errani dug out a win in the first round. I am not sure she can do it again.
