Andy Murray vs. Marin Cilic
This match would seemingly be entirely on Andy Murray’s racquet. Despite these two having a close battle at the Queen’s Club earlier this summer, Andy Murray is a strong favorite. Andy has not lost a match since losing the Roland Garros final. Murray has reached his 7th consecutive championship match. Murray played the earlier semifinal match in Cincinnati winning in two routine sets over Milos Raonic. Marin Cilic played a rain interrupted later match that did not end until after midnight. Cilic’s 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Grigor Dimitrov leaves him with little time to recover and focus on Andy Murray.
Does the Croatian number one have any chance?
Sure. Marin Cilic has a big serve. He has as many US Open titles as Andy Murray (0ne). In 2016, Cilic has also played well on grass and played well at the olympic games. He is playing well in Cincinnati. Cilic can play excellent big many tennis and dictate play. All of that gives him a chance, but I think Andy Murray will likely solve Cilic even if the Croatian jumps to an early lead or forces a third set. Murray’s return of serve, movement, and confidence are all off the charts right now.
My Prediction: Andy Murray d. Marin Cilic 7-6, 6-4
Confidence in my pick – Moderately high
