US Open 2016: September 5th Women’s Predictions

Arthur Ashe Stadium (11 a.m. start)

[6] Venus Williams (USA) vs [10] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) – I picked Pliskova to reach the semifinal round when I looked at the draw.  Venus is playing awfully well, but if Pliskova can hold serve fairly frequently she will force Venus to play long sets in order to win.  That is where I think the match can trend in Pliskova’s favor.  Venus has a lot of history of success in New York and is the higher seed.  I think Pliskova wins in 3 competitive sets.

[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs. Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) – I like Serena for obvious reasons.

[4] Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) vs. [Q] Ana Konjuh (CRO) – Konjuh has made me miss on a number of occasions this event.  She could overpower Aga.  However, I think Radwanska likely figures her opponent out at some point and wins.

Louis Armstrong Stadium

[5] Simona Halep (ROU) vs [11] Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) – Halep needs to not let CSN’s backhand generate patterns that are uncomfortable for the Romanian’s game.
