Predicted Winners in BOLD

Simona Halep (ROU) [4] vs. Shelby Rogers (USA) – This event seems pretty wide open. Halep may be a decent pick for the title.

Kateryna Kozlova (UKR) vs. Venus Williams (USA) [13] – Venus looked solid at the US Open last year.

Angelique Kerber (GER) [1] vs. Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) – Kerber went 14-0 in Grand Slam play on hard courts last year.  She should win this match, but can she keep up that pace?

Marina Erakovic (NZL) vs. Garbiñe Muguruza (ESP) [7] – Muguruza has a lot of talent, but has not done a lot since Roland Garros last year.  Does she rebound in Melbourne?

Coco Vandeweghe (USA) vs. Roberta Vinci (ITA) [15] – This should be a fun match with some shots falling outside of the typical topspin drive rallies.

Louisa Chirico (USA) vs. Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) – Bouchard seems to have rounded some corners with her game.

Patricia Maria Tig (ROU) vs. Monica Puig (PUR) [29] – Has the gold medal honeymoon fog warn off?
