French Open 2017: June 1st Women’s Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Court Philippe-Chatrier (11 a.m. start)

[20] Barbora Strycova (CZE) vs Alizé Cornet (FRA) –  This is a tough match for me to call. I watched Cornet last summer in Cincinnati and was impressed.  I think she can spring an upset of a sort in this match.
[2] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) vs Ekaterina Alexandrova (RUS) – I think Halep and Muguruza are receiving a lot of attention as favorites in this wide open event, but Pliskova could maybe advance quietly as clay would not seem to be her ideal surface. That quiet path to the second week may actually open the door for a title run.

Court Suzanne-Lenglen

[3] Simona Halep (ROU) vs Tatjana Maria (GER) – Halep is as well positioned as she could hope to be to take this crown.

Court 1

[28] Caroline Garcia (FRA) vs  Chloe Paquet (FRA) – Civil War?

Court 2

[5] Elina Svitolina (UKR) vs Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) – This could be a 3 set battle.
[17] Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) vs Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) – I like Bouchard to make a little noise in this draw.

Court 3

[21] Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP)  vs Sorana Cirstea (ROU) – This is a 50-50 match in my view.
[12] Madison Keys (USA) vs [Q] Petra Martic (CRO) – The qualifier has a golden opportunity, but how much court time has she logged?

Court 6

[26] Daria Kasatkina (RUS)  vs [Q] Marketa Vondrousova (CZE)

Court 16

[14] Elena Vesnina (RUS) vs Varvara Lepchenko (USA) – Match of the day?

Court 17

[29] Ana Konjuh (CRO)  vs Magda Linette (POL) – Konjuh is my dark horse.
