Predicted Winners in BOLD

Center Court (11 a.m. start)

[9] Venus Williams (USA) vs. Alison Riske (USA) – I will call an upset over the two-time 2017 major finalist.  I think Riske is a solid player and the humidty of midday Cincinnati is not great for Venus’ chronic health issue.

[4] Garbiñe Muguruza (ESP) vs. [Q] Beatriz Haddad Maia (BRA) – 

Grandstand

[11] Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) vs. Ana Konjuh (CRO) – I may be going upset crazy here, but I think Konjuh is a terrible match up for Cibulkova.

[2] Simona Halep (ROU) vs. [Q] Taylor Townsend (USA) – Halep will need to counter-punch to win, but that is one of Halep’s strengths.

[WC] Sloane Stephens (USA) vs. Lucie Safarova (CZE) – The draw gods got a good laugh out of this one (maybe).  They staged an epic match a few days ago in Toronto.  I will pick a revenge victory for Safarova.  Still, Stephens’ confidence may be ahead of schedule in her comeback so she may just as easily roll here.

[10] Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) vs. Julia Goerges (GER) – I nearly went upset crazy here, but I will take Aga.

[7] Johanna Konta (GBR) vs. Kiki Bertens (NED) – Not the easiest draw for Konta, but she should come through.

Court 10

Catherine Bellis (USA) vs. Alizé Cornet (FRA) – Cornet is quite talented and a good match player (plus some gamesmanship at times).

Elena Vesnina (RUS) vs.  Caroline Garcia (FRA) – This should be a really strong match.  If one has tickets, spend some time watching.

Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) vs Barbora Strycova (CZE) – Another excellent match.  Court 10 is the place to be.
