US Open 2017: August 31st Men’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Three Former Champions in Action

Roger Federer (SUI) [3] vs. Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) – Federer needs to play better than he did in the first round to go far in this event, but as a professional he has never struggled with Youzhny so his form may not need to be much better to advance to the 3rd round.

Rafael Nadal (ESP) [1] vs. Taro Daniel (JPN) – Looking at the draw and the state of many players, I think the champion will either be Nadal or someone totally unexpected.

Andrey Rublev (RUS) vs. Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) [7] – Dimitrov won his first Masters 1000 title in the Queen City.  Can he win his first major in Flushing Queens?

Taylor Fritz (USA) vs. Dominic Thiem (AUT) [6]

Adrian Menendez-Maceiras (ESP) vs. Juan Martin del Potro (ARG) [24] – JMDP could adopt a survive and advance mentality and contend for a second major title despite having a questionable left wrist.

Donald Young (USA) vs. Gael Monfils (FRA) [18] – I like Gael in this match.

Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR) vs. Tomas Berdych (CZE) [15] – A player who has been steady since the mid 2000s versus a player who is unpredictable.

Adrian Mannarino (FRA) [30] vs. Bjorn Fratangelo (USA)

Malek Jaziri (TUN) vs. John Millman (AUS)

David Goffin (BEL) [9] vs. Guido Pella (ARG)

Stefano Travaglia (ITA) vs. Viktor Troicki (SRB)

Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) [33] vs. Santiago Giraldo (COL)

Fernando Verdasco (ESP) vs. Feliciano Lopez (ESP) [31] – Lefty battle y Guerra Civil

Yuichi Sugita (JPN) vs. Leonardo Mayer (ARG)

Damir Dzumhur (BIH) vs. Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (GER)

Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) [11] vs. Dustin Brown (GER) – I love Dreddy’s attacking play, but RBA will likely either win in 3 or grind his way to a 4 set win.
